Few plants are as classy and chic as the orchid. I remember being told as a teenager that if a man were to buy me an orchid then he would always treat me with dignity and respect. What a symbol, not only of the sophisticated life but also of delicate beauty and childlike happiness. It is such a pleasure even to gaze on an orchid for a moment, but to own one – to be an orchid-owner – is something intricately special. I personally love the blue ones, especially since it is a colour both of calm and of vibrancy – it is quietly peaceful yet exuberantly loud. The element of reflection depicted here I consider important, though simple – the sincerity and naïveté of this simple flower leads us to reflect on the simplicity of life – the small things that make all the difference. The basic meaning of existence. The smiles, simple words of encouragement and small acts of kindness that make such a difference to people. Let us be inspired by the simple yet beautiful blue orchid.
